Lose Weight and Get Healthy!
You know, the process of changing yourself for the better seems to be a private one for most people. For example, I know people that absolutely refuse to admit that they are in the process of a personal transformation. You’ve probably done that as well.
Have you ever gone on a diet and not told anyone?
That’s what I’m talking about. Why would you do that? Most likely it’s because you don’t want people to judge you if you fail, am I right? Well I’m here to “call you out”. If you go on a diet and you don’t tell anyone that you’re doing it and what your goal is, don’t bother doing it.
All you’re doing is depriving yourself of stuff you love for the brief time between now and the point of failure. Think that’s harsh? If you’re honest with yourself you know it’s true.
If you’re serious about losing weight and getting healthy then follow these key points:
- Don’t call it “going on a diet” – that in itself implies that there is an end date to your new healthy lifestyle. Say instead, “I have changed my eating habits”… and proclaim it, be excited about how you are going to look and feel.
- Exercise – I know, ick right?... Not! I am going to make you a promise: if you get off your butt and walk (WALK!)… yes, walk, that’s it… for 30 minutes every other day you will have:
• More energy, not less
• A better attitude, people will want to hang around you because you’re so confident and cool now
• Increased metabolism… yes, you can eat more!
• Healthier skin and a more youthful appearance, better circulation
• More respect for your body and what you put into it
I could go on and on but you get the point. Suffice it to say that there are tons of benefits to exercising and you should stop being lazy and just do it.
- Eat on a schedule. Gone are the days of 3 meals a day, make it 6! Just make ‘em smaller. And spread ‘em out, eat every 3 hours. I’ll get more into this in another post here.
- Get your mind into it. This is the most important key to success… with anything, let alone weight loss. Stop counting on “will power”. Stop going against your mind. To be successful you have to be fully engaged in the process… and that means all parts of you, your mind included.
If you are using will power you are, in effect, arguing with yourself. One part of you is saying “I can do this, I have the power” (will power) and another part of you is say “There’s no way you can do this, you are going to fail” (negative self talk).
The trouble is this, negative self talk is freakin’ persistent! And giving into it tastes REALLY good. Will power sucks in comparison. So don’t count on it.
Instead, get your mind inline with what you want your body to do and start creating habits. Will power is a short term tool. It’s like a shot of adrenalin, it helps you out in a pinch but it’s not good for long term lifestyle changes. Healthy eating habits and regular exercising are long term lifestyle changes.
How do you create good habits without resorting to will power? Talk directly to your subconscious mind, that’s the place where habits are formed and reside. You do that by distracting or entertaining the conscious mind in order to access the subconscious.
There are many ways to distract or entertain the conscious mind, including meditation, breathing techniques, subliminal conditioning, visualization and so on… You choose the method you like but know this, you HAVE to do it to be successful and it HAS to be consistent! Done right you can turn the dieting’s 95% failure rate into a 95% success rate.
Follow these keys to success and you are destined to live a lean, fit and healthy life, and more important, you’ll love it.
